senior communication specialist,
missouri annual conference of the UNITED METHODIST CHURCH
March 2016 - Present
Communicators need to be Janes of all trades, and I’ve certainly grown into that in my nearly three years at the Conference. I am webmaster to our main website along with several subsites hosted on a variety of platforms, such as Wordpress, Weebly and GoodBarber, a progressive web app platform. My experience in this arena includes source code work as well as work with a WSWG editor and table-based CMS. I am the primary editor overseeing our social media presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. I am the communication strategist and have developed a system to streamline our communications and outward facing message. I lead the Conference in annual communications review meetings to evaluate the past and plan for the following year. I write, edit and distribute email communications to targeted lists to serve our audience with the information most relevant to them. I work with our publications editor to edit our monthly magazine, The Missouri Methodists, and write there on occasion. I am one of our primary in-house graphic designers, creating event branding and promotional materials as well as handouts and handbooks. I brainstorm, film and edit videos for promotions and work with video agencies to tell longer stories, used at our Annual Conference event and distributed to churches across the conference. I offer technical support and training to our staff and the staff of nine district offices. I work with our tech team volunteers at the three-day Annual Conference to produce and execute the projection. Ahead of the conference, I wrangle media, build projection and manage other tech-related details.

Eat, drink, write, repeat. Keeping a careful eye on the happenings in Columbia, I pitch, report, research, write and fact-check stories on the city’s best tastes. My stories primarily appear in The Feed at feastmagazine.com and make occasional print appearances in the magazine’s monthly issue.
Feast is a large-format print magazine and website covering all things food and drink in the state of Missouri and the greater Midwest.
